THE POWER OF OPPORTUNITY: SUPPORTING OUT-OF-WORK ADULTS THROUGH PURPOSEFUL PROGRAMMING

Baltimore, MD – June 4, 2025 – With unemployment and career transitions continuing to affect communities across the country, Causing to Forget is shining a light on the transformative impact of providing opportunities for out-of-work adults. Through targeted initiatives like the 2nd & 3rd Life Career Program, the organization is not just preparing adults for new jobs—but for a renewed sense of purpose, stability, and hope.

Adults who face extended periods of unemployment due to layoffs, caregiving responsibilities, health issues, or lack of access to quality training need opportunities to build their skills. For many, these gaps on a resume can become barriers to reentering the workforce. The result is often stalled economic mobility, strained mental health, and increased risk of long-term poverty.

But one opportunity can change everything.

How Causing to Forget Is Making a Difference

Through its career development programming, Causing to Forget provides:

  • Career Readiness Training – Resume building, interview prep, and skills training tailored to modern job markets
  • Mental Health Support – Counseling and coaching to help individuals manage the emotional toll of job loss and transition
  • Professional Certifications – Including graphic design, administrative support, and digital literacy
  • Mentorship and Accountability – Real-time support from professionals who understand the barriers and the breakthroughs

“We meet people where they are—whether they’ve been unemployed for months or years,” says Yolanda Palmer. “And we help them believe again in what’s possible.”

Stories of Change

Participants who once felt hopeless are now employed, certified, and moving forward. Some have reunited with family, some are now mentors themselves, and many have found new purpose in work they never imagined possible.

Why It Matters

Supporting adults in career transition is not just good for individuals—it strengthens families, local economies, and communities. Investing in second chances restores dignity, reduces poverty, and creates a ripple effect that benefits everyone.
